Jacob Tremblay, the Canadian actor responsible for voicing Linguado in the original version (subtitled here in Brazil) of “The Little Mermaid”, shared a joint social media note with the live-action protagonist, which was released last week. The artist, who is currently 16 years old, is scheduled to voice the character of one of Ariel’s best friends in 2019.

Initially, the film was to be released in 2021, but due to the pandemic, production was temporarily halted, and then resumed. A new version of the Disney classic just hit theaters this year.

It’s not just the artist’s appearance that has changed over time. The live-action flounder was very different from the one made famous by the Disney production released in 1989, and its performance was criticized by the public. In the new version, Ariel’s best friend (played by Halle Bailey) is represented more realistically and less colorfully, like in the animation.

“I was first shown Flounder’s look when I auditioned for the role. I watched the movie and thought it really worked. I thought the designers were geniuses and knew exactly what they were doing,” the young Canadian actor said in an interview with Magazine “People” at the premiere of the film.

“The Little Mermaid”, less than a week out in theaters, has earned $185 million worldwide. From last Thursday (25) to Sunday (28), around 888,000 people watched the film in Brazilian cinemas.
