Canada mobilized its troops in the war against Fiona

Fiona hit the Canadian coastal provinces of Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador on Saturday. Quebec was also hit by the typhoon. The storm brought heavy rain and swells along the east coast.

Defense Minister Anita Anand said on Saturday that troops were deployed to remove fallen trees and assist with other clean-up, as well as restore transport links. He hasn’t given a figure for how many troops will be helping.

In the Caribbean, at least five people died as a result of Fiona’s damage in the previous days. In Canada, there were no reports of deaths or serious injuries until Sunday Norwegian time.
