Eitrem with skating surprises at the World Cup: – No words

The Skreia boy hit with a time of 6.08.24. It’s a clear best record for him, and for Norwegian skaters, only Sverre Lunde Pedersen (6.07.16) is faster over the distance.

– This is a wild case by Sander Eitrem, simply put, exclaimed Viaplay commentator Eirik Koren during a live broadcast from Holland.

– It’s a little surprising

Eitrem completed the sixth-fastest 5000 meters on Thialf ever. On that list, he only has Dutchman Patrick Roest (four times) and Jorrit Bergsma ahead of him. Saturday’s win went to Roest, who lowered his own track record to 6/4/36.

– Damn dad, I have no words. Under 6.09 I wouldn’t believe it at all, so it’s a bit of a shock. It’s close to Roest, so there’s still a lot to catch, Eitrem told Viaplay afterward.

– It makes sense that I’m four seconds quicker here than in Calgary, he added.

In Canada’s Olympic city last year he set what has since become a personal record.

Joy together

On the podium at Heerenveen, Eitrem was joined by Hallgeir Engebråten. Third place went to Norway in 6:09.44.

– There’s nothing better than standing here with Sander. We submitted two great runs. I’m mostly doing rod-outs at the moment, so I’m satisfied, said Engebråten.

In the national team, the two are roommates, and both are part of the Nord-Odal club.

junior record

It was also a career best for Sigurd Henriksen with 6.17.67 in Saturday’s race. It holds the 11th place and junior world record.

– It’s sickening to take that record on Thialf. The crowd cheered me on like I’m Dutch. It’s been a pleasure and a relief to manage this, Henriksen told Viaplay.

Earlier in the day, Peder Kongshaug set a personal record by winning the 5000 meters in group B. The Rogal native recorded 6.13.51.
