Enduro World Cup – #1 Maydena – Results

The first stage of the Enduro World Cup ended this Sunday 26 in Maydena, Tasmania, Australia. There were no Brazilians competing in any of the sports played this Sunday (elite and sub21). Despite the absence of a green and yellow flag on Sunday, Nataniel Giacomozzi, from Santa Catarina, won the Enduro category on the electrics on Friday. 35 athletes competed in the women’s elite and 90 athletes in the men’s elite. Still without Brazilian representatives in the under-21 category, eight female athletes and 29 male athletes competed in this category.

Sunday’s men’s contest saw Australian dominance as all three podium spots went to the hosts. Standing on the top step is Luke Meier-Smith, who not only took victory in his first Elite Enduro race, but also his first big race with his new team, Giant. He completed the top six at 28’55.210″.

Behind, Dan Booker (29’01.040″) and Connor Fearon (29’14.450″) dominated the tracks and the conditions to stay at the end of the race all day. The only non-Australian rider in the top six was Canadian Rhys Verner, who finished fourth in 29’19.780″.

In the Elite Women’s race, a fight broke out between 2022 EWS champion Isabeau Courdurier of France and downhill world champion Vali Höll of Austria, but a crash on the fifth stage put Höll out of contention for the final. victory, although she still managed to secure 10th place.

Nearly 10 seconds behind Isabeau (33’15.930″), it was Morgane Charre, EWS vice-champion in 2022, who closed the first round of the Cup at 33’25.510″. Closing out the podium, Englishwoman Ella Conolly managed to stay consistent in all six stages and set a time of 33’53.650″.
