GSP rules out returning to MMA, but leaves room to try other modalities – 10/31/2022

Currently Georges St-Pierre is living a retired life from MMA and looking for something else in life. One of them happened last Saturday (29), when he made his debut as a boxing commentator.

GSP was on broadcast of the fight between Anderson Silva and Jake Paul last weekend in Glendale (USA), commenting on last weekend’s duel. In an interview with MMAFighting, Canada ruled out returning to MMA, but stated that ‘you can never say no’ to future opportunities to further his career.

– If I want, I can compete in boxing. Never said no. If it’s for a good cause, something well organized, who knows? I can box or wrestle. Who knows? But my days of proving that I’m the best are over. I continued to train, but now I have other priorities in life. When I go to train with someone, when I compete with someone, I can still do it. “But my heart is not in it anymore,” said St-Pierre.

Away from fighting since 2017, the former UFC middleweight and welterweight champion even tried to fight Oscar de la Hoya in the glorious arts, but claims he was prevented by the UFC from doing so. Now, without a contract with the entity, he would be able to seek other modalities, but he doesn’t necessarily want to return to MMA.

– Maybe I fight because I’m in the entertainment business, boxing or wrestling. Something more casual than MMA. Not MMA, something safer, which has less risk because it’s not my priority. Why not? If it’s something well done… But if it’s a small glove boxing match… I don’t want to,” GSP said.

– Being here in this fight reminds me why I didn’t miss it. It’s something I can’t stand, stress and so on. I never liked fighting. I struggle because it helps me to be what I want to be in life, to have the freedom to do what I want with whoever I want, whenever I want. That’s why I struggle. Nothing is 100% free, but I can say that I am more free than others – added the Canadian.
