Canadian scrum half Brianna Miller has been ruled out of the remainder of the Rugby World Cup after sustaining a “significant internal injury” against Italy.

Miller came off in the 64th minute last Saturday in what appeared to be a regular change in the game at the Waitakere Stadium in Auckland. But Rugby Canada said Miller was taken to hospital after “developing symptoms” after the game.

An internal malfunction was revealed, keeping Miller out for the remainder of the tournament. The 21-year-old from Pointe-Claire, Que., is Canada’s premier scrum half and placekicker.

This is the second injury to a key position for Canada. Fly half Taylor Perry had to undergo knee surgery after sustaining the injury in Canada’s final training session in New Zealand before his October 8 opening match against Japan.

Veteran forward Laura Russell also missed the night of the tournament, with an upper body injury.

The 33-year-old forward rower is the most experienced Canadian player in the competition. She has represented Canada 53 times, finishing third on the list of all-time Canadian women.

Canada’s third place, beating No. 12 Japan 41-5 and No. 5 Italy 22-12, finished Pool B played Saturday against sixth-placed America.

Canada has already qualified for the quarter-finals.

“Obviously it’s very disappointing to miss the rest of the tournament, but at this time, I’m just grateful to be healthy and to have received such great care here, and to the love and support from my teammates,” Miller said in a statement. statement released by Rugby Canada.

While Julia Schell has started flying halfway through her last two games for Canada, Alex Tessier got the nod against AS Perry, 22, from Oakville, Ontario, has been replaced in the squad by prostitute Veronica Harrigan.

Justine Pelletier will start replacing Miller against US Captain Sophie de Goede as a substitute.
