In a statement sent to Lusa, the Camões institute explained that the financial support from Banco Santander Totta “is intended to pay for scholarships offered to attend higher education courses taught in Portugal and in the Portuguese language”.
“During the last protocol period, 14 scholarships were awarded to students from the following countries: Argentina, Canada, Spain, France, Poland and the UK”, he added.
According to Camões, Banco Santander was one of the first institutions to receive Empresa Promodora da Língua Portuguesa (EPLP) status in 2017, “an initiative that already has 13 participating companies, from various business areas and with various types of contributions”.
“Valuing and promoting Portuguese as a business language is also related to the process of internationalization of companies, which can take advantage of the association of their brands and products with the global values of Portuguese,” stressed Camões in the statement.
The protocol update was signed by the president of Camões, João Ribeiro de Almeida, and by the administrator of the Bank, Miguel Belo de Carvalho.
