Imagine being in a place with temperatures below 5°C without heating and being hungry! Seeking shelter and comfort, homeless people crowd the heating centers of Vancouver, one of Canada’s major cities. It was then that a writer had the idea: to seek the support of Internet users to order pizza to feed these people!
Within hours, she had enough to buy more than 100 pizzas and dessert pies. Só Notícia Boa went to understand the initiative. In Vancouver’s crisis centres, homeless people find support but no meals, just coffee and tea.
Writer Gabrielle Peters summed up how she felt when she received donations. “Community is a verb, not just a noun,” she said. “It is the act of doing. It’s about being there and making things happen in any way possible.

Concerned by the situation, Gabrielle Peters, a writer known in Canada for her volunteering and campaigns in support of the excluded, including people with disabilities, he sent a tweet asking for offers from pizzerias to help feed the homeless who are in heating centers.
“I knew there was nothing there,” Peters said. “I thought huh, what if we send pizza?” he added, launching the tweet which received a boost from Mo Amir, host of “This is Vancolour”.
You Internet users mobilized quickly! As soon as the tweet went live, donations began.

Peters raised over C$3,000.00, enough to supply pizza to 15 different centers in Vancouver.
As donations continued to arrive the next day, including two donations of $500 Canadian each, the writer purchased another 57 pies, delivered to support centers.
“We have to be there to look out for each other,” said Gabrielle Peters.
