– Jakob has picked up ten out of ten – NRK Sport – Sports news, results and broadcast schedule

If you run it ten times, you get another winner. I think the race went in his favour. If there was a little less wind and a little bit cooler, and someone did the race in 12.50 minutes or so, he could have crashed, Mohammed Ahmed told NRK.

Canada Ahmed finished fifth after stiff running in the final. He won Olympic silver in Tokyo in 2021 and WC bronze in Doha in 2019. According to him, Ingebrigtsen Actually is a 5,000 meter runner who is proficient in the 1,500 meter distance.

Jakob Ingebrigtsen agreed with the latter claim, but when asked by NRK if there was anything they could do to get him off the hook, the answer was straightforward:

– NO!

Jakob Ingebrigtsen has no doubts who is the best in the world at 5000 meters. He started the celebrations 40 meters from goal to a standing ovation from the crowd at Hayward Field. Henrik’s older brother called it the least dramatic 5,000 meters he had ever seen.

He had to patiently wait outside the stadium after the race. Jakob had to go through the press zone, then on to the medal ceremony, another round with the press, doping control, and then a few more interviews outside the stadium.

Henrik: – He likes it when it’s cold

And while he waited, he was at least as clear as his little brother about the other opportunities:

– Jakob has taken ten out of ten.

Henrik Ingebrigtsen analyzes the claims about cold and wind as follows:

– If it was colder it would be an advantage for Jakob, he likes it when it’s cold. He took his shirt off on the last kite when it was five degrees and pouring rain at home in Sandnes, so he loved it.

– Wind conditions? Well, they run in an open field. On one side there is a tailwind and on the other side there is a headwind. Once you hatch it’s almost harder for those on the back.

– I don’t know how they managed to beat him.

The main challenger failed

Joshua Cheptegei of Uganda was picked as the biggest favorite to challenge Ingebrigtsen before the race. He went ahead from the start, but was unable to manage the pace that challenged the Norwegian.

– The others tried, but it seems they didn’t really try. Looks like they can’t believe they’re going to beat Jakob today. This is probably the most dramatic 5000 final I’ve ever seen, where he just stepped up and showed he was the best of the day.

Cheptegei’s plan was to park the competitors in the final four laps:

– I should have… I realized that it wasn’t the right time for me. I’m a little disappointed, but it’s part of the learning curve, Cheptegei told NRK.

The Ugandan finished in 9th place.

American Grant Fisher continued to lead into the race, but was stiff in the sprint for the bronze medal. He ended up finishing sixth.

– I think he came back quite motivated from 1500 meters. He’s world class and a tough guy to beat, and he’s been training in a way that prepares him for doubles like that. He’s been very solid,” Grant Fisher told NRK.
