Japan confirmed an invitation to the Lula government to meet with the G-7

The Prime Minister of Japan, Fumio Kishida, will invite President Luiz InĂ¡cio Lula da Silva to the G-7 Summit in Hiroshima, Japan, which takes place between May 19 and 21. The invitation was confirmed by the Japanese Ambassador to Brazil, Hayashi Teiji this Tuesday, the 21st. “It is very important for Japan to cooperate with Brazil on global issues, such as climate change, health and development,” he said in a post on Twitter.

Brazil’s last participation in the event was in 2008, during Lula’s second term. During the four years of Jair Bolsonaro’s administration, Brazil has never been invited to participate in the meeting that brings together the world’s largest economic powers.

To discuss urgent matters at the global level, the summit which includes the United States, Japan, Germany, Britain, France, Italy and Canada usually invites other countries. Since the presidential campaign, Lula has reaffirmed his commitment to bringing the country closer to the international community. The meeting did not involve China.

Lula will travel to China over the weekend and said in an interview with Television 247, this Tuesday morning, that the trip was “very important not only to guarantee the good relations that Brazil has with China, but to expand ours”, and reiterated that he wanted the presence of the president of the Chamber and Senate . The statement referred to Arthur Lira (PP-AL), who informed the government that he would no longer be part of the official entourage. The participation of Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG) has been confirmed.
