Ministry of Foreign Affairs Confirms News of 2 Indonesian Students Died in US and Canada

Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia confirm reports regarding two Indonesian students died in United States of America and Canada.

The two students are Timothy Dien, who is studying at Campion Academy in Loveland, Colorado, USA, and Grace Karundeng, who is a student at Humber College, Toronto, Canada.

Spokesperson for the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Teuku Faizasyah, said Indonesian representatives in the US and Canada had cooperated with local authorities to handle the two cases.

“There has been handling from related parties in the local country and also from the family. Indonesian representatives in Los Angeles and Toronto have coordinated with the family,” said Spokesperson for the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Teuku Faizasyah, to CNNIndonesia.comTuesday (11/1).

The news of Timothy Dien’s death was also conveyed by the Campion Academy Instagram account.

“It is with a heavy heart that we announce that one of our Campion Academy students, Timothy Dien, died of unforeseen and still unknown causes on Friday, January 7, 2022,” wrote the Campion Academy account, (9/1).

Until now, the cause of death of Timothy and Grace is unknown. Based on the news circulating, the two students were both from North Sulawesi, but Faiza admitted that he did not know exactly which province they were from.

CNNIndonesia.com too have contacted the Indonesian Ambassador to Canada, Daniel Tumpal Simanjuntak, and Budi Kurniawan Supangat, Consul for Protocol and Consular Functions of the Indonesian Consulate General in Toronto, but they have not responded.
