He shows documents from the federal court in the area, according to Intrafish.com, E24 Tuesday and Canadian media Monday.

In December 2020, former Fisheries Minister Bernadette Jordan announced in a press release that 19 salmon farms on the Discovery Islands would be closed by June 2022 and that no transfers of fish between hatcheries and farms would be permitted. during the 18-month phase-out period. .

Salmon farmers followed the order and closed their business on the Discovery Islands.

Rights of licensees violated

Although they complied with the order, they sought judicial review. On April 5, 2021, a temporary injunction was issued against Jordan’s order regarding the transfer of fish from hatcheries to fish farms.

Initially, this would allow salmon farmers to continue farming until the closure date. However, it appears that the Jordanian ministry ignored this order, the BIV website wrote on Monday. The court announced that the order “was not complied with by the minister”.

On April 22, Federal Judge Elizabeth Heneghan ruled that Jordan’s order violated the rights of license holders, and so the salmon farmers were upheld in court.
