Student died while live-streaming his own drowning in Canada

A 24-year-old student recorded his own death on video during a live broadcast Facebook in a swimming pool in Canada.

The case was registered on Thursday (18), when Hellen Nyabuto, a Kenyan who is studying nursing in the North American country, stepped into the pool to swim.

Around 2pm, he started the broadcast, talking to his followers for a few seconds and leaving pictures to swim deeper.

According to Canadian website CBC, in the video posted on Facebook, Hellen can hear the woman’s screams for help seconds after she disappears from the frame. He stopped talking and the broadcast continued until 5pm, when other hotel guests found the woman’s body in the pool and ended the video.

According to the Ontario Police, the incident was recorded shortly before 5:45 p.m., more than half an hour after guests found the student’s body in the swimming pool.

Rescue procedures were applied to the woman, but she was declared dead at the scene.

To bring the young woman’s body back to Kenya, Hellen’s relatives created a virtual crowdfunding. In three days, they raised 54,000 Canadian dollars (the equivalent of R$212,000), enough to remove his body, which was buried over the weekend.

According to the Ontario police, procedures are underway to have a widely publicized video depicting the student’s death removed from social media out of respect for the young woman’s family.
