The 2023 Speedo Eastern Canada Championship takes place in Windsor this weekend

Hundreds of athletes from across Canada are in Windsor this weekend for the 2023 Speedo East Canada Championships at the Windsor International Aquatic and Training Centre.

The event coincided with the Western Championships being held at the MNP Community and Sport Center in Calgary.

“It’s been great to have some of the best swimmers in Canada come and compete in Windsor,” said Windsor Aquatic Club head coach Mike McWah. “And we love to host.”

The Championship starts Thursday and continues through Sunday with 89 clubs from across the country taking part.

We just had our regional competition and our provincial competition is now national level so it’s great to be in home and we have a fantastic facility to show.”

Windsor last hosted the championships in 2018.

“We are also preparing for the upcoming World Championship trials in two weeks in Toronto,” he said. “So some of the best swimmers are still working through that, which gives the next wave an opportunity to do some good stuff here.”

Canadian swimming officials say the four-day meet will be the last competition before Canada’s top athletes switch gears and prepare for the 2023 Bell Canadian Swimming Trials at the Pan Am Sports Center in Toronto March 28 – April 2, 2023.
