In recent years, the search for smarter city has been increasing around the world, with governments and companies investing in technology and innovative solutions to improve the quality of life of citizens.

In this regard, the Intelligent Community Forum (ICF) has just released its list of the world’s 21 smartest communities, and Curitiba has been among them for the fifth year in a row. However, it’s not just Curitiba that stands out: Assaí and Ponta Grossa also appear for the first time in the rankings. So, the three places in Paraná are the only Brazilians on the list.

To make the Smart21 Intelligent Community list 2023, each city needs to implement the six principles that the ICF assesses in governance actions for inclusive economic prosperity, social health, and cultural wealth.

ICF is a non-profit organization that researches smart community policy, and its list includes cities in eight countries on five continents.

So, since 2019, when Curitiba joined a select group of the world’s 21 smartest communities, Curitiba is the only South American representative on this list, standing out as a pioneer in the region.

Please note that this is only the first stage of ICF’s annual award cycle, and the public can participate by submitting a questionnaire.

In addition, this year’s Smart21 list is considered a definite honor, and the first step to forming the Top 7. In this regard, in 2022, New Taipei (New Taipei City), the largest city in Taiwan, takes the title. .
