Trump says invasion of Ukraine could lead to World War III
Donald Trump speculated that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine could potentially lead to a third world war, when he shot Joe Biden for his response to Vladimir Putin’s aggression.
“This could lead to World War III. I saw what happened,” he said at a rally in South Carolina on Saturday, adding that his successor could still “end this tragedy without leaving Americans trapped in a terrible and very bloody war.”
Meanwhile, the former US ambassador to Ukraine said that a transcript revealing Trump’s attempts to withhold congressionally approved military aid from Ukraine during a 2019 phone call with Volodymyr Zelensky likely emboldened the Russian president.
“I think that definitely plays a part. I think Putin sees how Trump views Ukraine … as a pawn,” said Marie Yovanovitch NBC on Sunday.
Trump was impeached for the first time following a congressional investigation that found he was trying to withhold military aid and invitations to the White House in exchange for President Zelensky’s announcement of an investigation into his Biden, and for promoting a conspiracy theory that Ukraine – not Russia – interfered in the 2016 election. .
Former Attorney General William Barr said dealing with Donald Trump and his advisers was like “wrestling with a crocodile”.
Speaking to NBC, Barr said he and other Cabinet secretaries would have to “grapple” with “his people” to keep them “on track”.
“He spread his net widely and talked to a lot of people, and Cabinet secretaries, all of us, often have to wrestle with them to achieve the things we thought would keep them on track, and we were generally successful, but… it often like wrestling with an alligator,” he told the outlet.
“After the election, he will only listen to groups of people who don’t have government positions but tell him what he wants to hear,” Barr added. “He is ultimately to blame for it. There’s just something about her that she wants to be surrounded by yes men. ”
