Most of the municipalities of Oslo and Nordre Follo were hit by a widespread power outage Sunday afternoon. This may have been due to a fire in the transformer, police said.

– There was a widespread power outage, operations manager Tore Solberg in the Oslo police district told TV 2.

At one point, 40,000 customers were without power in Holmlia, Bøler, Mortensrud, Lambertseter, Nordstrand and parts of Nordre Follo. This was quickly adjusted, but more than 6,000 customers were without power for several hours Sunday afternoon.

In an update at 4:24 p.m., police wrote that Elvia had found the error and was starting to fix it. Elvia estimated that the work would take about an hour, and just before 17.30 all customers had their electricity back.

– Our people are working to reconnect the power supply so that customers get power back. Usually, restoring the power supply is fairly quick, communications manager Morten Schau told TV 2 shortly after the failure occurred.

There was no flame in the transformer when emergency services arrived.

– They can’t see the big fire, but report the smell of burning, task commander Rune Elstad at 110 Central told TV 2.

THOUSANDS: At the start of the blackout, more than 30,000 homes were without power.
