UK and Canada say they will ‘never’ recognize the referendum

In a telephone conversation, Truss told Ukrainian leaders London’s “strong support” for Kiev in the face of the recent referendum promoted by Russia on militarily controlled territory in Ukraine.

Pro-Russian authorities in the Ukrainian regions of Zaporijia, Kherson, Lugansk and Donetsk announced on Tuesday a “yes” victory to Russia’s incorporation in a referendum organized by Moscow and deemed illegitimate by Kiev and its Western allies.

The British Ministry of Defense believes that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s intention is to announce the annexation of these territories in the near future.

According to a spokesman for the British prime minister, the two leaders also discussed “how the UK and Ukraine can work together to ensure Ukraine’s long-term gas supply”.

Truss also thanked Zelensky for work that led to the release of five British nationals held by pro-Russian militias in eastern Ukraine, who were released last week thanks to Saudi mediation.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also spoke with Zelensky today and said that “Canada will never recognize the Russian ‘referendum'” and that it will continue to “provide military, humanitarian and financial assistance to the Ukrainian people,” he said in the statement. Twitter social network.

Trudeau later added in a statement that the referendums in Ukraine’s Donetsk, Lugansk, Kherson and Zaporijia regions “have no legitimacy” and constitute a “blatant violation of international law.”

“Canada does not and will never recognize the results of this bogus referendum or Russia’s attempt to illegally annex Ukrainian territory,” he said.
