East End Park in Moncton, NB, was a sea of red Tuesday morning as kids took over the city’s new Jumpstart Multi-Sports Ground for the first time.

The new space is over 13,000 square feet, with space for a variety of sports, such as basketball, volleyball and tennis. This also includes protected seating.

Designed to encourage everyone to play, this recreation space is made to accommodate physical, cognitive and sensory disabilities.

“Creating a place where everyone has the opportunity to play and be active is one of the guiding principles of our Recreation Master Plan, and is critical as we work to build healthier and more resilient communities,” said Moncton Mayor Dawn Arnold, in a news release.

The new course is a partnership between the City of Moncton and Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities as part of Charity’s Inclusive Play Project.

“Through sport, children have the opportunity to develop valuable life skills such as teamwork, self-confidence and resilience,” said Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities president Marco Di Buono in a release.

The new space joins a youth center, swimming pool and trails in East End Park.

“This extraordinary space is a wonderful addition not only to the neighborhood, but to the entire city,” said Arnold.
