Canadian Cardinal Marc Ouellet, who holds one of the most important positions in the Vatican, is accused of sexual assault in a class action lawsuit released Tuesday in Canada that targeted more than 80 members of the Quebec diocese.

Prefect of the Congregation for Bishops accused of inappropriately touching an apprentice between 2008 and 2010when he was Archbishop of Quebec, referring to court documents that were part of a class action lawsuit received in May by the High Court of the French-speaking region of Canada.

The revelations come three weeks after Pope Francis visited Canada to apologize for abuses committed by members of the Catholic Church in residential schools for indigenous people.

The Diocese of Quebec said, in response to Agence France-Presse (AFP), that it had “recorded the allegations against Cardinal Marc Ouellet”, explaining that it had “absolutely no comment on this matter”.

The accusation is between testimonies from 101 people who “have been sexually assaulted” by clergy and lay officials between June 1940 and today, according to court documents.

In the case of Marc Ouellet, the complainant, designated by the letter “F”, explains that he was attacked several times by the cardinal.

In particular, it was stated that the cardinal would “kiss” and “tuck his hand” down his back “to his ass” in 2010.

In February, evoking the “drama of sexual abuse perpetrated by the clergy”, Cardinal Ouellet condemned, during a landmark symposium at the Vatican before Pope Francis, “criminal behavior hidden for a long time to protect the institution”.
