China considers Biden irresponsible for again calling Xi Jinping a dictator

“This statement is extremely wrong and is an irresponsible political act. China firmly opposes it,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning said at a press conference.

Biden on Wednesday reiterated that Xi is a dictator, in a press conference, after meeting with his Chinese counterpart, for more than four hours, at a mansion known as ‘Filoli’, about 40 kilometers from downtown São Paulo. on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum.

“It should be noted that there are always people with ulterior motives who try to instigate and damage relations between China and the US,” he added.

According to Mao, “these people are well aware of who is trying to harm Sino-American relations” and emphasized that “they will not succeed.”

Biden’s remarks were made in response to a journalist who asked him whether he still considered Xi a dictator. The American leader replied, “yes, see, it’s true.”

In his campaign fundraiser for the 2024 election last June, Biden started by calling Xi a “dictator”, causing great discomfort in Beijing.

At another fundraising event, on Tuesday, in San Francisco, and the evening before the meeting, the North American leader said China had a “serious problem,” without specifying what he meant.

The two leaders are expected to meet again this week in the high-level segment of the APEC summit, which runs through Friday in San Francisco and is also attended by the presidents of Mexico, Chile, Colombia and Vietnam, as well as first ministers. including from Canada, Australia and Japan.
