The Stingers were the number one seed in the tournament. They defeated the host team, the University of Saskatchewan Huskies 4-0 in the quarterfinals, and then the University of Waterloo Warriors 3-1 in the semifinals.

Meanwhile, the Varsity Blues were tested more ahead of the final than the Stingers. The reason is, they beat the University of New Brunswick Reds in the quarterfinals and the University of Montreal Carabins in the semifinals with an identical score of 2-1. The Varsity Blues' victory over the Carabins occurred on penalties.

This is the fourth Canadian University Women's Hockey Championship for the Stingers. They previously won in 1998, 1999 and 2022.
