“Commitment to Culture, here at Cineteatro and, in general, in the Municipality, is one of the structuring axes of our program. This is a good investment and added value for the municipality. And it is with great satisfaction that we hear mention of Mealhada, outside the municipality, as an important cultural dynamicator, either with artists of a national – and even international scale as Dan Livingston’s touring – or with openness to our collectivity”, underlines António Jorge Franco, mayor of Mealhada , in a press conference to present the schedule for the first semester which was held this morning at Cinemas Cinemas.

This semester follows the line of last year’s program: a diversity of performances – from singing to music, from dance to theatre, from comedy to children’s musicals or stand-up comedy -, with many registers capable of pleasing different audiences. “We are very pleased to say that Cineteatro Messias has gained centrality in regional terms. It is a cultural house, with a huge diversity of proposals, from the commercial to the most experimental, sought after by great national artists and also hosts collective productions us”, stressed Gil Ferreira, Member of the Council for Culture.

Orquestra Clássica do Centro and João Baião opened this year

Also in April, on the 15th, Cineteatro Messias hosted “Secret Files”, by Luís Osório, which is considered the most shocking cultural proposal in recent years. In a show based on the book of the same name, which he wrote a year ago, the journalist and writer will summon to the stage the ghosts and memories of the figures who have marked Portugal’s recent history and sparked public cause for laughter and laughter. crying, moving and angry. On May 13, actor, writer and director Virgílio Castelo, together with journalist and writer Maria Elisa Domingues, will bring to life the play “Love Letters”, which depicts a love story.

Music with Márcia, Teresa Salgueiro, Noble and Dan Livingstone

On the first day of April, Teresa Salgueiro, former lead singer of Madredeus and one of the most prestigious voices in Portuguese music, will take the stage at Cineteatro Messias for a concert that will reflect the influence of composers and performers that marked the birth of democracy in Portugal. On May 20, Márcia, a singer who has been considered one of the greatest compositional talents in the Portuguese language, will offer the public an emotional, intimate and at the same time impactful concert, where she will present her new album “Picos e Vales”.

Children’s musicals and stand-up comedy

The schedule for the first half of 2023 also promises to be fun for all ages. On February 11, there is a stand-up comedy, with Luís Franco-Bastos. In “Diogo”, an account and deconstruction of intimate and family experiences, memories, and issues, the comedian promises to leave the show to himself as he never did.

A month later, animation will be guaranteed for the youngest with the children’s musical “The Three Little Pigs”, a story not only about family and love, but also learning. On May 28, the week when World Children’s Day is celebrated, there will be a new children’s show with “Pinocchio – A musical adventure”, where, apart from the character’s nose, many smiles, laughs and sighs will grow.

“The program presented here – with 20 great shows until the end of May – reflects the cultural policies that were followed in the past year and which we aim to maintain in 2024: a large artistic lineup, several mainstream, with one and two-ticket sold out audiences, other audiences are more restricted, but essential to ensure cultural heterogeneity”, summarizes Gil Ferreira, member of the Council for Culture, underscoring the openness to local artistic communities and associations.
