McDavid was named NHL player of the week from November 28 to December 4

Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid of Richmond Hill, Ontario was named National Hockey League Player of the Week for the week from November 28 to December 4 on Monday according to nhl.com. In four games, McDavid had five goals and six assists for 11 points.

McDavid opened the week with a goal and two assists for three points in the Oilers’ 4-3 win over the Florida Panthers on November 28. It was followed by a goal and an assist for two points in the Oilers 5-4 win over the Chicago Blackhawks on November 30, a goal and an assist for two points in the Oilers 5-3 loss to the Minnesota Wild on December 1, and two goals and two assists for four points in the Oilers’ 5-3 win over the Montreal Canadiens on December 3. Within a week, McDavid also got +5 with five power-play points, 18 shots on goal, one hit, one blocked shot, and 18 head-to-head wins.

McDavid now has 22 goals and 26 assists for 48 points in 26 games. He is +4 with 16 penalty minutes, 23 power-play points, one shorthanded goal, 101 shots on target, 163 faceoff wins, nine blocked shots, 25 hits, 19 takeaways, and 32 prizes. McDavid leads the NHL this season in assists and points.

In other Oilers news, former Oilers scout Barry Fraser of Lake Kirkland, Ontario died Sunday at the age of 82. Fraser was scouting director for the Oilers from 1979 to 2000, and won five Stanley Cups at Edmonton in 1984, 1985, 1987, 1988, and 1990.

Meanwhile, in the NHL, the Oilers’ 5-3 loss to the Canadiens, was the first of two straight losses for Montreal on their Canadian west coast road trip. On Monday in Vancouver, the Canadiens were 4-0 after halftime, only to lose 7-6 to the Vancouver Canucks.
