Refugee couple in Canada will be able to see their newborn boy in the US

THAT Diplomacy provides a lot of headaches, and let Mohamed Jeran and his wife say it, refugees from Yemen who moved to the city of Windsor, Ontario, Canada, in 2018, and who have been living a nightmare in the past month.

It’s just that, in November, Jeran’s wife delivery after 23 weeks of gestation and certain situations forced paramedics to cross the border and take her to Hutzel Women’s Hospital in Detroit. There, the woman – whose name has been withheld – underwent a caesarean section, in her father’s absence.

This is where the confusion arises: the Yemeni couple has permanent residency status in Canada, but does not have travel papers and therefore cannot apply for a visa to enter the US. That’s why Jeran must live on the Canadian side of the border. “I spent the whole night on the phone with him, listening from afar, unable to do anything.” alerted the man to Canada’s CBC network.

Baby Moataz was born on Nov. 28 and has been hospitalized since then in a US hospital neonatal unit, with respiratory problems, according to a letter signed by the hospital in Detroit, where Moataz is expected to stay for 12 to 15 weeks.

Instead, Jeran’s wife had to return after five days, as she also did not have legal permission to live in the US.

The Yemeni man said he regularly calls Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to find out the status of his travel document applications. but many times I can’t talk to someone, or little progress is made in the process.

But last week, Jeran said he was relieved to learn the documents were on the way and that he should receive them this week to apply for a visa and could visit the US for a period of more than one day. – so far, still unable to stay across the border.

“THAT [IRCC] called and said my travel documents are on the way. It was a terrible headache that was gone from my head.“, said.
