Smoke from Canadian wildfires reaches New York

The North and Northeast regions of the United States are experiencing a worsening air quality because of fires forests that exist in Canada. Authorities are reporting multiple fires out of control, and the effects are already being felt in New York, located on the east coast of the country.

According to the latest information from the Canadian government, there are 413 fires in progress, which has already led to the evacuation tens of thousands of people from their homes.


During a press conference, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau warned of a fire season throughout the summer. With climate change, fires are occurring more intensely and in unusual areas.
The smoke from the fires knows no borders and has already darkened the skies of several cities in Canada and the United States. In New York, the visibility it was greatly reduced by fog, making skyscrapers almost invisible on the horizon.

At night the city recorded the worst air quality the world for a few hours. At dawn, the smell of smoke persisted.

In addition to New York, Canadian smoke also affected Washington, where the White House is located. Deterioration in air quality due to smoke is already being felt in 18 US states, affecting approximately 65 million people.
