The Secretary of State for the Portuguese Community (SECP), Paulo Cafôfo, made his first trip to the Portuguese and Portuguese-descendant communities in Canada, with some 167,000 Portuguese people with consular registration, present in Montreal, Vancouver, Ottawa and Toronto.

The visit, which took place between 8 and 15 May, included contacts with local authorities as well as meetings with association organizations and members of the Portuguese community, paying homage to some of the community representatives and distinguishing between some of the institutions, whose work was carried out. highlighted. .

The program in Canada also includes the 70th anniversary of contemporary Portuguese immigration to Canada, planned meetings with entrepreneurs from the diaspora, students and teachers of the Portuguese language, with Portuguese diplomatic and consular officials.

The work agenda also includes the handover of the library from the Reading Incentive Plan (PIL) and the handover of tablets from the Program for Digitizing Portuguese Language Teaching Abroad (EPE) with funding from PRR, which are intended for students, teachers and readers.

The visit is part of a series of initiatives with the diaspora, for this mandate, called «Portugal in the World: A Path to the Valorization of the Portuguese Community», with the aim of strengthening ties, bringing Portuguese residents abroad closer to our country and, simultaneously contributing on the vision of our current diaspora.
