A Victoria University field hockey player stood out among the national athletes during the first month of the season.

Nora Struchtrup was named the U SPORTS player of the week, adding the title to two of West Canada’s players of the week who have earned their second year in just two weekends of play.

Struchtrup scored his fifth and sixth goals of the season in two games against the University of British Columbia on 24 and 25 September, equaling his 2021 season goals tally.

The field hockey team Vikes sit atop the Western Canada standings midway through the regular season. The Vikes will welcome the University of Calgary at home for two games on October 15 and 16.

On the rugby pitch, Kira Peary of the women’s team UVic received the West Canada Player of the Year award this week. Peary collected 14 points from one try, three conversions and one penalty goal in the Vikes’ 53-5 win over the University of Lethbridge on 22 September. He’s now scored a team-high 22 points this season.
