76ers star Joel Embiid named NBA MVP for the first time in his career

Joel Embiid finally took the honor after finishing second twice.

Joel was dropped by the Sixers as the third overall pick in 2014. Due to serious foot injuries, his debut didn’t come until two years later. The star has already been selected four times for the All-Star Game.

Number 21 was born in Cameroon and became naturalized French. He joined a shortlist, along with his competitors, of foreigners who have already won the award. Embiid is the second player from the African continent to win this honour. Hakeem Olajuwon, from Nigeria, was the MVP of the 1993/1994 season. Besides them, the Canadian Steve Nash and the German Dirk Nowitzki also received the title.
