Canadian Virtue and Moir with an ice dancing world record

The Canadian duo bettered their own record of 82.68. The pair are 1.64 points ahead of their French rivals Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron heading into Tuesday's free dance.

– What's better than making a record is the feeling we get when the music stops. “We looked at each other and felt like we presented strong competition,” said Tessa Virtue.

– But we also have to stand up at the free dance party on Tuesday, he said.

Although the pair impressed the crowd and judges with their Latin American-inspired program of samba, rumba and cha-cha-cha, it was unclear whether the pair would win their third Olympic gold medal.

The French couple was able to provide a very good free program. Last year, the pair broke the 200-point mark, and they achieved their best scoring performance of all time at the European Championships in Moscow last month.

During Monday's card program, Papadakis didn't have much luck with his outfit. Towards the end of the dance, the hem of his jacket came undone. She was clearly upset by the incident, and at the end of the dance her entire breast was visible, before she realized and corrected her mistake.

Anyway, it's leading up to a very exciting and big day at the skating rink on Tuesday.

Virtue/Moir won Olympic gold on home soil in 2010, but in Sochi the pair were relegated to silver. Last week, the pair helped ensure Canada won the gold medal in the team competition.
