The sale itself was announced at the end of November 2022. But now politician Rødt Hege Bae Nyholt has warned that the issue will become a parliamentary topic.

He believes there are obvious challenges when the building is purchased by investors, especially when the ownership structure is as complex as is the case at Brookfield.

• Now this giant investor from Canada has invested heavily in kindergarten buildings in Norway

– When kindergarten buildings are resold for purchase funds, these companies are not interested in developing kindergartens. They are more concerned with income and see kindergarten as an investment object. We are losing control of the infrastructure in the daycare sector, and it would be a problem if we lost track of who owns the daycares in Norway.

– Would those working in kindergartens notice the difference if it was the municipality that owned the building or acquired the funds?

– There is great potential to feel the difference, whether it is the municipality or the company that owns it. Some nurseries sold to foreign purchase funds have rental agreements where the nursery itself is responsible for maintenance.

– What do you want Red to do about this?

– We will discuss this issue further and have plans that we will return to later. We have a clear hope that the government will pay attention to this. This is a community fund. Our clear hope is that public funds will be invested in the future and to develop and run good kindergartens, the Rødt politician told Fagbladet.
