Canada defeated Japan and Türkiye at the Women's Worlds in Curling

Team Canada remains alone in first place at the 2024 Women's World Curling Championship in Sydney, Nova Scotia. On Wednesday, Canada beat Japan 7-2 and Turkey 9-5 to improve to eight wins and zero losses.

In both of Canada's wins, Rachel Homan's Canadian team of Ottawa, Ont., had a stellar performance in the final game. After seven games against Japan, Canada led 3-2, before Canada got three points in the eighth end and a point was stolen in the ninth end. Then in Canada's win over Turkey, Canada actually trailed 4-3 after seven games and 5-4 after nine games, before five points in the 10th final. In the final against Turkey, Homan hit two brilliant shots to score a big goal.

Italy is alone in second place with seven wins and one loss. Switzerland and South Korea are in third place with six wins and two losses. In a huge upset on Wednesday, Scotland beat Switzerland 6-5 in 11 games. Denmark is alone in fifth place with six wins and three losses, and Sweden is in sixth place with five wins and four losses.

Team Canada has four games remaining in the round robin portion of the Championship. They play Estonia and New Zealand on Thursday, and Scotland and South Korea on Friday.
