Mark Scheifele recorded the eighth NHL hat trick of his career

Kitchener, Ontario's Mark Scheifele recorded the eighth hat trick of his National Hockey League career on Tuesday. He accomplished the feat in the Winnipeg Jets' 4-2 win over the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Scheifele opened the scoring at 4:04 of the second period from Alex Iafallo and Nate Schmidt. He then put the Jets up 3-1 with an unassisted marker with two minutes and five seconds left in the third period. Scheifele then scored with nine seconds remaining in the third period against an empty net from Josh Morrissey of Calgary, Alberta and Sean Monahan of Brampton, Ontario on an All-Canada goal.

In 61 games this season, Scheifele had 22 goals and 40 assists for 62 points. He was +24 with 34 penalty minutes, 16 power-play points, four game-winning goals, 134 shots on goal, 519 faceoff wins, 34 takeaways, 56 hits, 39 takeaways and 21 giveaways.

Scheifele's eight hat tricks came with the Jets. He has also scored three goals in the Jets' 4–2 win over the Montreal Canadiens on March 5, 2016, in the Jets' 5–2 win over the Dallas Stars on November 2, 2017, in the Jets' 5–1 win over the Ottawa Senators on February 20, 2020, in 8-4 Jets over the New Jersey Devils on December 3, 2021, in the Jets' 6-3 win over the Minnesota Wild on February 16, 2022, in the Jets' 6-5 loss to the Vegas Golden Knights on December 13, 2022, and in the Jets' 4-2 win over the Vancouver Canucks on December 29, 2022.

With the win, the Jets improved their record to 44 wins, 19 regulation losses and five overtime losses by 93 points. They are tied for first place in the Central Division with the Colorado Avalanche.
