Team Canada now has six wins and zero losses at the 2024 Women's World Curling Championship in Sydney, Nova Scotia. But what they accomplished on Tuesday was truly extraordinary. Canada not only beat one undefeated team, but two.

In the morning draw, Canada beat Italy 8-7 in 11 games. They then beat Switzerland 8-5 later in the evening. Italy and Switzerland had a record of four wins and zero losses, and six wins and zero losses each before their match against Canada.

In Canada's win over Italy, Canada made important steals in the fourth and seventh quarters, as Italy's Stefania Constantini was unable to clear Canada's four-footer on each occasion. In Canada's win over Switzerland, the key was the seventh match, when Canada put significant pressure on a Swiss team passed by Silvana Tirinzoni. Third Tracy Fleury passed a very small port (two Swiss guards) to take home, and then fourth Swiss player Alena Paetz couldn't get the Canadian stone out with her first stone, leading to Canada's big finish.

To look at Homan's win over Switzerland, this was Switzerland's first loss at the Women's World Curling Championship since May 4, 2021 when Sweden's Anna Hasselborg beat Tirinzoni 8-3 in Calgary, Alberta. Like Homan, Hasselborg has four endings. Switzerland is undefeated at the 2022 and 2023 Women's World Curling Championships. Tirinzoni's team is on a 42-game winning streak during this time.
