Grizzly bear killed by mountain goat in Canada

The remains of a grizzly bear carcass were discovered on September 4 by a hiker near the Burgess Pass near Field in British Columbia.

According to the autopsy report, the bear suffered fatal injuries to the neck and under the feet. The injuries were probably caused by the strong, pointed horns the mountain goats used to defend themselves.

– Grizzly bears attack mountain goats are relatively common. But this is the first case that my colleague and I have seen, says wildlife ecologist David Laskin Security. He works for Parks Canada.

30 centimeter long horn

Mountain goats in this mountainous region can weigh up to 70 kilograms, and their black horns can reach a length of almost 30 centimeters.

– The mountain goat’s defensive reaction is to protect itself by using its sharp horns, he took notes.

Large goats sometimes graze in the same areas where grizzly bears roam. Therefore, it is not uncommon for skirmishes to occur where one of the animals has to pay with his life in the event of a fight.

– Bears put themselves in danger

As a rule, bears emerge victorious from battles. Usually attacks from behind by biting the neck and shoulders of its prey.

But this time the mountain goat wanted it differently.

– Bears put themselves in danger when they attack large ungulates such as deer and goats. This is definitely a reminder that nature is full of surprisesDavid Laskin told the newspaper.

The grizzly bear is a subspecies of the brown bear that lives in North America. It can weigh up to 500 kilograms and be 250 centimeters long, according to the report Big Norwegian Encyclopedia. In males, the length of the paws reaches 15 centimeters. Grizzly has a strong hump on his back.
