Drake played his first show in Brazil in the rain at Rock in Rio

The mega festival Rock in Rio, which has always been criticized for featuring the same pop rock and heavy metal bands for decades, has attempted to break away from this stigma and for some editions has included artists from other genres in its lineup, such as divas Rihanna (in 2015) and Beyoncé (in 2017). Now it's Rio de Janeiro's turn to welcome Canadian Drake, one of the biggest names in international rap, for his first show in Brazil.

The show was marked by some controversy before it even started. It turns out that before the show, the star's production team decided to veto not only the live broadcast on Multishow, but also the event's official photographer and news agencies. Social networks were merciless, speculating whether the veto would be for legal reasons, ambition, or simply the singer's bad intentions. Or is it just the hubris of a famous international rapper? According to reports from Addition, the Canadian thought about canceling the show because he did not approve of the sound and lighting of the show. Amidst much confusion, the show went on and the event managed to take some photos, but no transmission.

Even so, the fans faced with heavy rain witnessed a great show with many hits and also a lot of conversation. The presentation began with Aquarela do Brasil with the voice of João Gilberto, interrupted by short explanations Mixture hit song from the singer, who immediately stopped his voice to start speaking. He proposed dividing the audience into left and right sides and, in the style of Freddie Mercury in Queen's memorable performance at Rock in Rio in 1985, directed the crowd. A bold maneuver for a first song, but the worst thing is that it works.

If the singer arrives in Brazil by expensive jet (around 10 million) the show is economical, Drake is only accompanied by a DJ, without dancers or scenery. On the screen, backlit images of the rapper alternate with images of Christ the Redeemer struck by lightning, perfectly fitting the rainy weather. He doesn't skimp on auto-tune, so much so that an unwary person could swear there were three or four different people on stage, such are the differences in the tone of the Canadian's voice.

Coming back to talking about music, there is no shortage of hits in the presentation. Since “Start from the bottom“, “Know Yourself“, “Mass Bond” until “Work” (partnership with herself, Rihanna). But for some reason, when the guy was in good spirits and the show started, his songs were interrupted by talking. This problem is no different even from mega-hits.”Hot channel bling”, cut off before even reaching the chorus. It looked like one of Rolezinho was the owner of the box bluetooth He's a jerk and skips songs, the conversation will happen when the commercial comes on. I doubt it, Drake, on the first show in Brazil.

As the rain intensified and the Olympic City emptied, leaving only room for throngs of raincoat-clad fans belting out all the songs, the rapper's balls dropped and his praise for the crowd and the beautiful city sounded more sincere. To be honest, the Brazilian public is one of the most enthusiastic in the world and they softened the man, who repeated several times that this was the best show of his life. The presentation ended with “God's plan”, indeed played from cover to cover. Later, on twitterDrake regretted the cancellation of the broadcast, saying the rainy weather left him unsure about the outcome of the event.
