Canada announces new $2 coin in honor of Queen Elizabeth II – News

Canada announced on Wednesday (7) a new Canadian dollar 2 coin honoring Queen Elizabeth II’s 70 years as head of state.

“He is the only monarch many Canadians have ever known,” said the Royal Canadian Mint’s post on his Instagram profile.

The coin has a black border around the edge, which represents mourning for the loss of the queen, and also outlines her face. On the back, there is a traditional polar bear, also outlined by a black stripe.

“Like her own statue, the late Queen is a constant presence in the lives of Canadians, who will always remember her unwavering dedication to public service and deep affection for Canada.”

Nearly five million coins will be distributed in December and will gradually become part of people’s daily life. The Royal Canadian Mint guarantees that, if necessary, additional volumes can be produced.

Queen Elizabeth II died on September 8, aged 96, at Balmoral Castle, Scotland, and is the longest-living British monarch in history. His heir, King Charles III, will be crowned in London on 6 May 2023.

The Queen rules the Commonwealth, a group of 53 countries that originate from the British Empire. Between them, he ruled over 15 countries, including Canada, which would now have Charles III as king.
