At the age of 54, Céline Dion revealed an incurable neurological disease and postponed the show

Céline Dion’s fans are terrified this Thursday, the 8th. That’s because the singer revealed on social media that she’s been diagnosed with a rare and incurable neurological disease and will, therefore, be postponing her world tour.

At 54 years old, the Canadian singer is battling Stiff Person Syndrome (SPR), in which patients lose their ability to speak and walk due to muscle strain.

– Hi everyone, sorry it took me so long to reach you. I miss you all so much and I can’t wait to be on stage talking to all of you in person. As you know, I’ve always been an open book and I wasn’t ready to say anything before, but I am now. I’ve been dealing with health issues for a long time and it’s been really hard for me to face my challenges and talk about everything I’ve been through. I was recently diagnosed with a very rare neurological disorder called stiff person syndrome, which affects one in a million people, it started.

And continued:

– While we are still learning about this rare condition, we now know that this is what causes all of the seizures I have. Unfortunately, these spasms affect every aspect of my daily life, sometimes causing difficulty when walking and preventing me from using my vocal cords to sing as I normally would. It pains me to tell you today that this means I won’t be ready to restart my European tour in February. I have a great team of doctors working with me to help me get better and my precious children who support and help me.

– I work hard on my physio every day to get my strength back and my ability to perform again, but I have to admit it’s been a struggle. I only know how to sing is what I have been doing my whole life and it is what I love the most. I miss him so much, I miss seeing you all off the stage, performing for you. I always give 100% when I do my show, but my current condition doesn’t allow me to give it to you now. So that I can connect with you again, I have no choice but to focus on my current health and hope that I am on my way to recovery. This is my focus and I’m doing everything I can to recover. I want to thank you so much for your greetings, love and support on my social media. This means a lot to me. Be careful. Take care. I love you very much and I really hope to see you again soon.
