Canada was thrashed by Croatia this Sunday and knocked out of the World Cup in Qatar. With a 4-1 loss, the Canadian team went scoreless in the World Cup, but scored its first goal at the foot of Alphonso Davies.

The goal came in the first minute of the game, when Tajon Buchanan provided a precise cross for Alphonso Davies to head home and make history. Bayern Munich’s left winger who played more advanced in the national team scored the first goal in Canadian history at the World Cup.

In Qatar, the Canadian national team is participating in the World Cup for the second time. The last appearance was in 1986, at the World Cup in Mexico. In that competition, Canada lost all three group stage matches and did not advance to the knockout stage.

Canada qualified for the Qatar World Cup as the CONCACAF Qualifier leaders. The election finished ahead of Mexico and the United States, guaranteeing an immediate place for the World Cup after 36 years.

In the last round of the Cup group stage, team Canada will face Morocco, this Thursday, starting at 12 o’clock (Brasília time), at the Al Thumama Stadium.
