rap group Migos will not appear again in the next Rock in Rio. The festival announced Thursday afternoon (25) the cancellation of the show which will take place on September 4, as well as the casting of the band Jota Quest as its replacement.

The announcement comes amid rumors of a split between a trio of rappers from Atlanta, the United States, who are responsible for popularizing trap around the world in recent years. According to Rock in Rio, the group will not be able to come to Brazil “for reasons beyond the control of the festival”.

Migos will be singing on the Mundo stage, the main stage of the festival, and with the cancellation the line-up has also undergone some changes. Singer Iza, who will be the first to sing on this stage, on the 4th, will now be the second, and Jota Quest will open the event in space with a performance of “De Volta ao Novo”, the 25th anniversary celebration of the band Minas Gerais. .

Besides Iza and Jota Quest, American singer Demi Lovato and Canadian singer Justin Bieber will also appear on the Mundo stage that day. The first week of Rock in Rio –the first day of sold-out tickets – still featured concerts by Matuê, Luísa Sonza with Marina Sena, Emicida and Gilberto Gil with the family, the last one on the Sunset stage.

The departure of Migos, the group formed by rappers Quavo, Offset and Takeoff, comes amid news that the group will be disbanding. That’s because Quavo and Takeoff said, in an interview with the Rap Radar channel, on YouTube, that they worked as a duo, without Offset’s participation – which, in turn, unfollowed their friends on Instagram.

The last-minute cancellation of rap shows at Rock in Rio is also nothing new for the festival. In 2019, rapper Cardi B -offset wife- also canceled her appearance on the show at the last minute, as Jay-Z did in 2011.

Rock in Rio takes place on September 2, 3, 4, 8, 9, 10 and 11 in Rio de Janeiro.
